You know these fancy but not so fancy cover up vests. SUPER EASY to make! Here is how!!
What you'll need:
*Old over sized T-shirt, or a new over sized T-shirt
*Scissors
*(optional) Ribbon (I recommend using silk ribbon if you use ribbon)
First lay the shirt out flat and cut the arms off on the inside of the seam leaving no seam there.
Second cut the collar of the shirt, again leaving no seam.
Then cut the front into a V-Shape. If you want it to be easier than us a V-Neck style shirt. *Make sure you don't leave the neckline uneven!*
I first cut about an inch back on the shoulder seams
Then I cut a diagonal line
Then the other diagonal line
Then I cut the back of the neck line to be even.
After that cut a straight line right down the middle where the point of the V is.
Next cut the back of the shirt like a sports bra but not as far in as a sports bra.
At this point you can either cut the sleeves in 4 strings like and use them for the next 2 steps, or you can use ribbon, or really anything you'd like that ties!
Now you can either put the "Vest" on or lay it flat. Tie a piece of ribbon, or whatever you are using around the shoulder seams.
After that is complete then take your last 2 pieces of ribbon and go to the back and bunch the middle of the shirt in the back together and tie it in 2 places leaving space on the top so your shoulder ribbons sit on your shoulders.
After that is complete pull on the places of the shirt that you cut, this will make them kind of roll so you can't see the cuts on the shirt.
And TA DA!! You have your "popular vesty thing" ;)
You absolutely can have fun with this....if you wanna buy a fancier material than just a Hanes white t-shirt you can put patches on it or pockets (if you can sew of course) you can glue on bling, or even tie-dye the shirt!!
I might actually make the area around the bottom be that same ribbon to match!!
It would be cool to see your finished products!!!
HAPPY CRAFTING!!
Stay cool! ;)
